STORY‍
As you stroll along South Congress, you might catch sight of a well-loved sign that says "Espresso, Champagne, Chain Lube." The Meteor, founded by the brilliant minds behind Intelligentsia Coffee, offers not only one of the finest lattes in town but also one of the better bike shops. This extraordinary mid-century modern revival is bursting with personality, yet the bike shop and restaurant feel like two separate businesses. The stunning facade suffers from a lackluster quasi-retro identity, and the witty sign feels disconnected. With numerous opportunities overlooked, I created this concept to seize them, merging biking and café culture into one seamless experience.

The MeteoR
Information +
The Meteor is a cleverly combined coffee shop and cyclist haven in Austin, TX.
Unifying a disjoint experience was the unique challenge for this brand.
While working through the identity design, we discovered a way to make the M function as a meteor.

This added motion, and reinforced the M as the mnemonic device.

The additional benefit, as you see here, is that we could tile this custom zig-zagged M into a more aggressive meteor shape. This naturally ended in a flexible identity system.

Additionally, this is the type of "easy-logo-slappability" system is easy for busy restauranters to implement.
We explored ideas where the hard vector meteor might be replaced by photography that could relate to both biking and cafe culture, while keeping a reference to this mnemonic device.
